Ampd 400
A mobile battery energy storage system made by Ampd Energy, for demanding construction and industrial sites. The larger unit, with double the nominal output and nominal DC capacity of the Ampd 200. It is typically considered for heavier or longer duties.
- Nominal output
- 386kW
- 428 kVA
- Nominal DC energy
- 430kWh
- Rated capacity, not usable AC energy
- Peak, up to 10 seconds
- 585kW
- Overload rating, time-limited
- Maximum charging input
- 410kW
- Unit limit, not site supply
Where it is considered
- Larger tower cranes, or more than one crane or hoist on a shared supply
- Bigger construction sites with sustained plant loads
- Industrial equipment with high starting currents
- Longer periods between charging opportunities
What an assessment checks
- That sustained demand stays within nominal output, with peaks inside the overload durations
- Ambient conditions against the listed operating range and derating point
- The charging supply actually available on site
- Access and lifting for a unit of up to 9,000 kg
Suitability is a judgement about your load, supply and site. It is made in a technical assessment, not from a specification table.
Output ratings and their durations
The Ampd 400 sustains its nominal output. Above that it has two overload ratings, each limited in time. The brochure does not set out the conditions for repeated overloads, so a duty with frequent peaks is checked by an engineer.
- Nominal output386 kW / 428 kVA
- Overload, up to 60 seconds466 kW / 496 kVA
- Overload, up to 10 seconds585 kW / 595 kVA

Where published sources differ
The brochure and the manufacturer’s product web page, as reviewed on 2 October 2026, give different values for two items. This page uses the brochure values for Rev 1.3. Which applies to a supplied unit is confirmed with current documentation in your proposal.
| Item | Brochure Rev 1.3 | Manufacturer web page | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Container enclosure protection | IP54 | Up to IP55 | Unresolved; confirmed per project |
| Maximum ambient operating temperature | +50 °C | Up to +55 °C | Unresolved; confirmed per project |
Manufacturer statements
“Up to 90% reduction in carbon footprint”
Manufacturer statement, compared to generators of similar capacity. Not a forecast for a particular site.
A battery discharging on site produces no exhaust there. Overall emissions depend on how it is charged: a battery charged by a diesel generator is not zero-emission power.
Ampd 400 questions
What is the continuous output of the Ampd 400?
The Ampd 400 IEC brochure (Rev 1.3) lists a nominal output of 386 kW / 428 kVA. Its higher figures are overload ratings: 466 kW / 496 kVA for up to 60 seconds, and 585 kW / 595 kVA for up to 10 seconds. They are time-limited and are not continuous output.
How long will the Ampd 400 run?
Runtime depends on your load. The brochure lists 430 kWh of rated nominal DC capacity, which is not the same as usable AC energy delivered to your equipment. Usable energy, losses and reserve are confirmed in a project assessment.
Is the 9,000-cycle figure a warranty?
No. It is the rated life of the battery cells, where a cycle is one full charge and full discharge. The brochure states that rated cycle life does not equal warranted cycles. The listed warranty duration is 5 years; the full terms are confirmed in a proposal.
Can the Ampd 400 be used in the United States or Canada?
The published data covers the IEC variant for 380 to 415 Vac supplies. Its 50 / 60 Hz entry does not establish a North American voltage variant, and the brochure lists UL 9540A at cell level only. The applicable variant and approvals are confirmed for each North American project.
